The Ka Lā, Honolulu Community College’s Student Media Board newspaper, won three awards at the Hawai‘i Publishers Association’s 32nd annual Pa‘i Awards, held at the Plaza Club in Honolulu. There were 31 categories awarded, appropriately themed to reflect different aspects of public media.
First place Student Design (Print) – Art & Soul campus creative arts magazine published by Nekemiah Williams, Tiera Spencer, Vania Graves, Alyssa Baligad, Steffanie Sobitz. Judge’s feedback, “Fabulous design with a mixture of the widest variety of elements I’ve seen. I’m impressed and inspired by the ways you’ve represented tattoo art, bonsai art and the breadth of colorful, detailed photographs and drawings.”
Second place Student Video – “Art & Soul” by Tiera Spencer, Nekemiah Williams, Alyssa Baligad.
Second place Student Story – “Finally Ready to Take on the Whole World” news student biography for the campus newspaper by Vania Graves.
