Honolulu Community College’s Office of Continuing Education, in partnership with HonCC’s Welding program, offered a Marine Welding Technology program specifically towards preparing participants from the Hawai’i Youth Challenge Academy for the maritime workforce.

The program started in January with eight cadets.  Three successfully completed on July 14.  The 138 hour course focused on areas such as blueprint reading, workmanship training, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety, welding theory and hands-on training, along with resume writing and interview preparation.

The HonCC Office of Continuing Education is grateful for the support and commitment they have received from the Ship Repair Association of Hawai’i (SRAH), and the Hawai’i Youth Challenge Academy and Foundation.

“These three cadets came to us with no work experience and through their determination with completing the program, we are proud to say they have received offers of employment from SRAH member companies,” shares Steve Auerbach, Director of Honolulu Community College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Congratulations Sean Bautista, Darny Daniel and Manuel Dominguez. We wish them all the best on their future endeavors!
