Senator Michelle Kidani presented assistant professor Norman Takeya with a special certificate recognizing him for his contribution to teaching as a recent recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Educator by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The following is the speech delivered by Senator Kidani. Congratulations Norman!
In a state where the construction industry is a major driver of the islands’ economy, it is critical that Hawai‘i’s workforce development strategies include appropriate training and educating programs and opportunities for continued growth. The Senate is pleased to recognize a leader among those who contribute to the industry’s successes by commending Norman Takeya, Assistant Professor of the Construction Management Program at Honolulu Community College.
NAHB recognition of outstanding educators such as Norman Takeya is meant to inspire high standards in this field of educating. He has already been recognized by the University of Hawai‘i with a Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching in 2015, nominated by his students at HonCC for his mastery of subject matter, his effectiveness, creativity and personal commitment to them and his work. Norman is advisor to the campus NAHB student chapter and led the chapter’s team to first place honors at the national award ceremony last year. He has also worked diligently during his ten years at HonCC to find job opportunities for his graduating students.
The Senate of the Twenty-eighth Hawaii State Legislature, Regular Session of 2016, commends and congratulates Norman Takeya for being named a 2015 NAHB Outstanding Educator. The Senate further extends warmest aloha and best wishes to Norman for many more successful years of great work on behalf of Hawai‘i’s future construction industry leaders.
