On Thursday, October 16, Kini Zamora walks through the doors of his alma mater, the Honolulu Community College fashion lab, as an international superstar, the toast of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York all because of his success on Project Runway. Here is how the journey went.
Kini first experienced the runway at the annual Honolulu Community College fashion show. Then came graduation wehre he walked across the stage with his classmates, picked up his diploma that launched a new life as a fashion designer using the skills he honed at the Honolulu Community College fashion department. His teachers describe him as being very quiet, easy going, but determined – the very traits you see on Project Runway.
Kini competed with 15,000 designers 6 times to secure one of the 15 coveted spots on season 13 of Project Runway, a popular reality show on the Lifetime network. Each week America tunes in to watch the competition in which Kini showcases his spectacular designs and sewing skills while winning over television audiences with his positive personality. He has won several weekly challenges and only once fell below the top 3.
The Honolulu Community College fashion department invites the public to join us in celebrating his journey, and the pride he has brought to the campus and the state of Hawai’i.
